Over the past 50 years, he has dedicated all his life to the development of hybrid rice and has fulfilled his purpose by developing hybrid rice and benefiting the people of the world. Academician Yuan Longping first solved three problems in his study of three-line hybrid rice. Using "wild rice and remote hybridization technology of cultivated paddy" he found an effective way to cultivate the male germline and realized the germ-free line in 1973, the preserving and restoring line "three-line”; The powerful dominant hybrid rice has bred several combinations such as “Nanu2” and applied them to large-scale production. Academician Yuan Longping solved some key technical problems in his 1989 study of two-line hybrid rice. In 1997, academician Yuan Longping conducted research on super hybrid rice. In 2000, 2004, and 2012, the target for China's super rice production in the first phase was 700 kg per meow, 800 kg per meow in the second phase, and 900 kg per meow in the third phase. The scientific concept of ensuring food security in the country, namely, the "three-year-fourth" high-yield project of super hybrid rice was first implemented in Hunan in 2007 and quickly spread to Anhui, Guangdong, Guangzhou, Henan. The campaign in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, and other provinces achieved remarkable results. In 2011, academician Yuan Longping put forward the "two-part field or three-part field" for food security, the Liangfeng project, which was unanimously approved by the government and experts.
Yuan Longping has presided over more than 50 international hybrid rice technology training courses and trained more than 2,000 students with trainees from more than 30 countries in Asia.
