Dr. S M Minhus Represents Bangladesh on the International Stage – Seven of His Students Win the 2024 ISFS Award at the 2nd International Folk Gift Fashion Innovation Competition in Shanghai

On September 20, the award ceremony and exhibition for the 2024 ISFS Award winners took place as part of the 2nd International Folk Gift Fashion Innovation Competition, held during the 2024 Yangtze River Delta International Shanghai Fashion Season. Hosted by Donghua University, the event was staged at the Atmel Cultural and Creative Industrial Park in Qingpu District, Shanghai. This year’s competition, themed “Fusion: Harmony and Coexistence of Humanity and Nature,” was supervised by the China Association for International Education (CAFSA) and the Chinese National Museum of Ethnology, and organized by the Shanghai Fashion Accessories Society and the Shanghai Service Industries Development & Research Foundation.

The organizing committee invited seven expert judges to conduct an on-site evaluation. The final review meeting for the competition took place on July 6 at Consinee Shanghai Center. The competition awarded prizes across each track, selecting 1 Fashion Award, 3 Best Creativity Awards, 10 Best Design Awards, and 31 Cultural Exchange Awards.

Divided into three tracks, the competition’s Track 3 focused on folk gift design by international students. Since its launch, 270 international students from 35 universities across 59 countries registered to participate. Judges evaluated each design based on originality, fashionability, marketability, and its economic and social value. Ultimately, the works of 45 designers from 25 universities representing 23 countries were shortlisted for the international students' folk gift design track.

Among the shortlisted designers, 7 international students were selected from the School of Fashion, Wuhan Textile University, under Dr. S M Minhus’s supervision. After the design development and production process, in the final winner announcement, Wuhan Textile University’s international student from Pakistan (巴基斯坦), Muhammad Abdullah Sarim Ansari’s (剑锋) design has been selected for the ‘Fashion Grand Award-时尚大奖’ with the ‘Manji: Pakistani culture inspires art’ theme; international students from Ghana (加纳), Fatahiya Tijani’s (法塔什亚) design got  ‘Best Creative Award-最佳创意奖’ with the theme of ‘African Pattern’; 2 international students Muhammad Ahmad (阿米) and Sheikh Farzana Akter (法扎娜) selected for -Best Design Award-最佳设计奖’. Also, another 3 international students, Luiz Da Fonseca Ingles Aixa Correia (康瑞), Taofir Ibne Tas Shuvo (舒沃), and Florian Anthony Gezaho (安东尼) selected for the ‘Cultural Exchange Award-文化交流奖.’ The School of Fashion’s foreign faculty, Dr. S M Minhus (米汉斯), has also been selected for the ‘Excellent Tutor Award,’ Wuhan Textile University has been selected for the ‘Best Organizing Award.’

Dr. S M Minhus is a Bangladeshi citizen who works as a foreign faculty member and Secretary of International Exchange and cooperation at the School of Fashion, Wuhan Textile University, China. School of Fashion at Wuhan Textile University (WTU) is one of China's top ten fashion schools. He is also the Vice President of the Bangladesh-China Youth Student Association (BCYSA) 2023-24 session.
