Bangladeshi Scholar Md. Abu Kawsar Wins Prestigious Awards at UCAS Multilingual Science Poster Contest
Md. Abu Kawsar, a
doctoral researcher at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) and
Assistant Professor at Sylhet Agricultural University, Bangladesh, has been
honored with two notable distinctions—the Third Prize and the Best
Visual Design Award—at the First University Multilingual Science
Popularization Poster Contest organized by the Department of Foreign
Languages, UCAS.
The competition, designed to promote scientific communication across languages and enhance the international outreach of young scholars, attracted over 70 entries. Participants were invited to translate complex scientific concepts into visually compelling and linguistically diverse poster presentations in Chinese, English, French, German, and Japanese.
Mr. Kawsar’s award-winning poster, titled “The Secret Life of Oysters: Nature’s Water Purifiers,” highlighted the ecological significance of oysters in aquatic environments and their role in environmental purification. His work stood out for its integration of scientific accuracy with innovative visual storytelling, earning high praise from the judging panel for both clarity and creativity.
The contest topics covered ranged from artificial intelligence and ecological protection to quantum physics and public health, reflecting the wide-ranging scientific interests of UCAS students. “The goal of this initiative is to cultivate the ability of young researchers to communicate science effectively across cultures and languages,” said Professor Yu Hua, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages at UCAS.
In addition to his academic research, Md. Abu Kawsar serves as the Joint Secretary of the Bangladesh China Youth Student Association (BCYSA), where he actively contributes to fostering academic and cultural exchange between Bangladesh and China.
As part of the contest’s culminating activities, his poster was exhibited at the Multilingual Energy Station, a dedicated gallery showcasing outstanding entries in more than a dozen languages, including Spanish, Hebrew, Urdu, and Hawaiian. The exhibition demonstrated the university’s commitment to fostering global scientific literacy and intercultural exchange through innovative, multilingual science communication.
Mr. Kawsar’s recognition
not only brings pride to the Bangladeshi academic community but also sets an
example of how science can transcend linguistic
and cultural boundaries when communicated effectively.
